Maximalist Art by Alejandra Vasquez
Bold and colorful paintings that capture the essence of life.
Bold and colorful paintings that capture the essence of life.
I am a Chilean born artist living and working in New Jersey. Over the last 30 years I have developed my skills in different art forms including watercolor and acrylic painting, pencil landscapes, and most recently mixed media. My artwork has been featured at shows, gallery events, and private businesses in both New Jersey and New York.
My art style is heavily influenced by my life experiences. Using art as a therapeutic outlet has produced some of my most powerful and dynamic pieces. Striving to fill each canvas with as much detail as possible, my maximalist art style is a celebration of the beauty within the chaos. These bold and colorful paintings are each a 100% unique work of art.
I believe art to be a universal language. All people are holding within them the need to make art. Without it there would be no marker to honor our experiences of this life.
Welcome to Alejandra Vasquez, LLC Art Collection where every piece is a one of a kind expression of life.
Each mixed media piece is a one of a kind creation born from the artist's lived experiences
In “The Parable of Poverty” the artist leans into the rich history of her immigration journey; exploring not only her experiences as a child in the United States, but that of her father’s family in Chile in the 1960s. A visual feast, the work calls forth the excess of luxury on display she witnessed in New York City, where both her parents worked in the service industry, paired with the emaciated bodies of her father and uncles as children.

Named for the Maya Angelou poem of the same name "Caged Bird" explores the idea of women maintaining their beauty through their silence. But what would she say if she were freed from the cage of propriety and politeness?

An expression of turmoil and danger, “Caution: Darkness Ahead”, embodies the therapeutic nature of the artist’s process; using her past as inspiration to employ the healing effects of externalizing trauma to find peace in the present. The artist boldly works in black and white while garish splashes of color startle the viewer, much like the bright warning stripes of poisonous creatures.

“The Book of Spells” explores the nature of romantic love as glamorized by the classic films and media of the early and mid 20th century. When posed the question, what is love? the artist attempts to analyze her own internalized stereotypes and dogma in an effort to dismantle and rebuild her relationship with romance.

Inspired by the classic adage “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” the artist explores her relationship with herself after a lifetime of looking for self worth in the words of others.

Named for the famed Cerro Esperanza in the port city of Valparaiso, Chile, “Hill of Hope” is an ode to the artist’s motherland. Having moved to the United States at a very young age the artist retains ephemeral memories of her home, invoked by the playful color palette and crowded nature of the buildings.

A celebration of the abundance of nature "Flourish" is the artist's ode to her relationship with gardens and flowers. Always a space to replenish and reflect, the garden has also been the site of generational discord and healing.

In this work the artist gives form to the energy she channels for creative expression. Much the same as the central figure, the artist draws from the pulse of ambient waves ever present in our reality. A fascination with energy healing, chakra cleansing, reiki, and divination helped to craft the imagery on display in “Invocation of the Spirit”.

An examination of the divine feminine, “Surrender”, is a work celebrating the artist’s immersion into the newest phase of her life. The violet flowers and color palette lend to the theme of spiritual wisdom, healing, and determination; words not often associated with the concept of surrendering. And yet, when done as an act of sacrifice to one’s own empowerment, surrender is anything but giving up.

Having now entered into a new phase of her life, Grandparenthood, the artist welcomes a new hand to her canvas; that of her 2 year old grand daughter. In Pure Imagination the artists allowed the budding child to contribute brushstrokes and a feeling of playfulness to the base of the painting, while allowing the image that would eventually grace the canvas to build up over time. Without purpose or intention beyond the bonding, the artist watched as a beautiful city emerged from the jewel toned pa
In her first ever collaborative effort, the artist stepped outside her comfort zone and explored the mind and ideas of gorilla street artist Uptown Zoo. Using their images as source material she created a world being reborn. Her signature layers capture the moment of cataclysm in brilliant blues and yellows.

Thirteen Birds is the artist's largest work to date. A declaration of freedom, this piece is an expansive visual feast of birds in flight.
